Role Overview
Vickerstock are working in partnership with a manufacturing business on the appointment of a Procurement Manager to lead procurement strategy and ensure the timely, cost-effective supply of materials, services and equipment.
As Procurement Manager, you will manage supplier relationships, lead commercial negotiations and deliver cost improvements while maintaining quality and continuity of supply. You will work closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality and Finance to support production requirements and business objectives.
The Procurement Manager will have two direct reports-a Procurement Administrator and a Buyer-with responsibility for their development and day-to-day performance.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement procurement strategies aligned with manufacturing requirements and business objectives.
- Lead sourcing, tendering and supplier selection, negotiating pricing, payment terms and contracts to achieve value across cost, quality and delivery.
- Evaluate and onboard suppliers, monitor performance against agreed KPIs and drive improvements in quality, delivery and service.
- Deliver annual cost-saving and cost-avoidance targets through spend analysis, supplier consolidation and commercial negotiations.
- Work with Production Planning, Warehouse and Operations to maintain material availability, optimise inventory and reduce production disruption.
- Assess market conditions, supplier lead times and supply chain risks, developing contingency plans for critical materials and suppliers.
- Lead and develop the Procurement Administrator and Buyer, setting objectives, reviewing performance and providing coaching.
- Ensure procurement activities and supplier arrangements meet company policies, contractual requirements and relevant quality, environmental, ethical and safety standards.
- Partner with Finance on procurement budgets and forecasts, reporting on savings, supplier performance, inventory and supply risks.
- Support new product introductions, capital investment projects and sustainability objectives through supplier engagement and responsible sourcing.
To succeed as Procurement Manager, you will need:
- A minimum of five years procurement experience within a manufacturing environment.
- A bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Procurement, Business, Engineering or a related discipline.
- Experience leading supplier negotiations and managing commercial contracts.
- Practical knowledge of strategic sourcing, supplier performance management and procurement cost analysis.
- An understanding of inventory management, material availability and supply risk mitigation.
- Experience using ERP/MRP systems, including Infor CloudSuite Industrial (SyteLine).
- Experience leading and developing team members.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel for analysing procurement and supplier data.
Desirable criteria the Procurement Manager position:
- CIPS Level 5/6 or an equivalent professional procurement qualification.
- Experience within a lean manufacturing environment.
- A project management qualification or practical project management experience.
