Associate Mechanical Engineer

Overview

As an Associate Mechanical Engineer, you will lead a mechanical engineering team within a consultancy, guiding project delivery from concept to completion. You will act as technical lead on major projects and help grow the mechanical division through business development. The role combines design leadership, client liaison, and adherence to standards to deliver coordinated, high-quality building services solutions. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to implement sustainable, compliant designs at scale.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor the mechanical engineering team and manage resourcing
• Deliver mechanical design solutions for building services from concept to completion
• Perform detailed technical reviews ensuring compliance with standards and client specs
• Liaise with clients, architects, contractors, and consultants for coordinated outcomes
• Manage project budgets, schedules, and deliverables
• Support business development through client meetings, bids, and proposals
• Stay updated on industry innovations, sustainability practices, and regulatory changes
• Represent the company at industry events and forums

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering (or equivalent)
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards
• Minimum 8+ years of UK consultancy experience in the MEP sector
• Proven experience leading mechanical design on mid to large-scale projects
• Strong knowledge of regulations and standards (CIBSE, BSRIA, Part L)
• Proficient in software: Hevacomp, IES, Revit
• Strong leadership and communication skills
