Electrical / Mechanical Engineer

Overview

As a BT Networks Field Engineer, you will safeguard 24/7 network availability by maintaining low/high voltage systems, generators, UPS, cooling, and alarms across BT sites. You will lead by example, share knowledge, and own designated patches to meet SLAs while coaching colleagues. The role blends hands-on field work with extensive training and travel, including occasional on-call responsibilities. This is a chance to contribute to a critical, nationwide service and grow through a structured training path.

Responsibilities

• Identify and raise HSE/Compliance/Design issues to Power Environmental/Power Technical Support
• Own designated patch/sites to contribute to area, regional, and unit objectives
• Share best practices and help colleagues adopt new ideas and processes
• Own critical and urgent network repair/provision/maintenance activity
• Coordinate prioritized work items with patch managers and senior colleagues
• Conduct health and safety risk assessments
• Raise issues/risks to senior staff for change
• Develop own skills to support the team
• Suggest process improvements within and beyond the work area
• Ensure compliance monitoring (including health surveillance) and maintain professional appearance of role equipment

Key requirements

• Electrical competency City & Guilds 2360 parts 1+2 or NVQ or equivalent
• BTEC Electrical Engineering Level 3/HNC/HND/MOET Level 3/ET Level 3 or equivalent
• Full UK manual Driving Licence
