Senior Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead mechanical design reviews to ensure safety, performance, and compliance while collaborating with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality infrastructure projects. You will promote digital tools, modular construction, and Life Cycle thinking to reduce costs and environmental impact. You’ll mentor junior engineers and contribute to strategic design decisions, shaping outcomes across water and wastewater settings. This role offers meaningful impact through sustainable, innovative solutions in a large-scale infrastructure environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and review mechanical designs for compliance, safety and performance
• Collaborate with stakeholders to deliver projects on time, within budget, and to high quality standards
• Promote digital tools and modular construction techniques
• Drive health & safety by design and identify cost-saving improvements
• Champion sustainability and innovation across the design lifecycle
• Mentor junior engineers and foster technical excellence
• Support strategic decisions with project and engineering leaders

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering (related discipline)
• Chartered or working towards chartered status (preferred)
• Experience in mechanical design, ideally in water sector or similar complex infrastructure
• Strong knowledge of industry standards, health and safety legislation, and construction principles
• Leadership experience with coaching and developing others
• Proficiency in CAD and engineering software
• Confident decision-maker with collaborative mindset and strong communication skills
