Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer in Wise’s Global KYC and Onboarding squad, you will shape scalable backend systems and robust APIs for compliant verification workflows. You’ll own roadmaps, drive cross-team delivery, and advance KYC/FinCrime solutions as a configuration-driven product. Your work enables fast, fair customer experiences while meeting evolving regulatory and security requirements. This role offers impact across global onboarding and risk systems in a fast-growing fintech environment.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap for your areas, addressing debt, reliability, scalability, and security
• Design and implement robust backend systems with clean APIs
• Integrate with risk and mitigation systems to ensure compliance
• Identify and solve impactful problems across teams, contributing to cross-team initiatives
• Deliver quarterly goals for the team and influence technical delivery
• Mentor engineers, share best practices, and foster a high-performing team culture
• Lead large-scale, complex technical initiatives and anticipate organizational blockers
• Work with relational and non-relational databases, optimizing queries and data lifecycle for sensitive information

Key requirements

• 4+ years of experience with Java 8+, Spring framework
• Experience with asynchronous queues (Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Architected and built highly scalable microservices
• Strong product mindset and emphasis on customer experience and regulatory compliance
• Data-driven decision making for solving complex problems
• Excellent communication skills across diverse audiences
• Commitment to clean, testable, maintainable, and performant code
• Experience with both relational and non-relational databases and data lifecycle management
