Senior Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead mechanical design for water and wastewater infrastructure, guiding projects from concept to handover. You will work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver safe, efficient solutions that support water treatment and distribution. You’ll collaborate with clients and internal teams to meet programme, budget, and quality goals, while mentoring engineers to develop their skills. This is an environment where your designs directly impact communities and the environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater projects through outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning, and handover, including P&IDs, valve schedules, pump calculations, and pipework layouts
• Coordinate with Electrical, Civil, Geotech and Process designers to ensure on-programme and within-budget delivery to framework specifications
• Collaborate with commercial, operational, and construction teams to develop practical and safe design solutions across design, construction, and beyond
• Engage with clients to manage relationships and promote a one-team approach to achieving project aims
• Support the development of the mechanical engineering team through coaching and resource planning

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering, or related field
• Chartered or incorporated member of a professional institution (e.g., ICE, IMechE) or equivalent experience
• Effective communication with team members and stakeholders
• Methodical problem-solving approach
• Valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites
• Water/wastewater experience
