Senior Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this Senior Mechanical Engineer role, you will design complete mechanical systems and HVAC solutions for data centres, collaborating with cross-disciplinary teams. You will drive concept design through detailed design, ensuring regulatory compliance and high quality. You will lead, coach and develop staff within a multi-disciplinary group, while implementing QA, safety, and ISO-aligned processes. Your work will support HDR’s employee-owned culture and mission to deliver impactful engineering solutions. You will tackle complex, resilient mechanical systems to help shape reliable data centre environments.

Responsibilities

• From concept to detailed design of mechanical systems
• Ensure design projects and reports meet quality standards and technical compliance
• Maintain regular in-house design reviews and checks
• Lead and develop staff within the group to build high-performing teams
• Implement and manage QA systems and procedures on projects
• Implement Health and Safety practices and ensure CDM regulations compliance
• Ensure adherence to ISO 9001 and ISO 14001

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services or relevant subject
• Minimum 5 years of mechanical design experience within design consultancy
• Mechanical design experience for data centres
• Experience managing Mechanical Design across all design stages
• Experience with critical mechanical systems and HVAC, including cooling, ventilation, humidification, fuel oil and flue systems
• Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office, MS Project and AutoCAD
• Demonstrated leadership, team coordination and project management
• Experience with architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firms
