Senior Mechanical Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater projects from concept to commissioning, integrating with multi-discipline teams. You will contribute to the Living Water Enterprise partnership, shaping efficient, safe solutions that support environmental and community outcomes. The position blends design excellence with construction and commissioning oversight, offering growth toward chartership within a collaborative, cross-functional environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead the mechanical design of water and wastewater infrastructure through outline and detailed design, construction, commissioning and handover, including P&IDs, valve schedules, pump calculations, and pipework layouts
• Coordinate with Electrical, Civil, Geotech and Process teams to meet programme, budget, and quality targets
• Collaborate with commercial, operational and construction teams to develop safe, practical solutions across design and build phases
• Engage with clients to manage relationships and promote a one-team approach
• Support development of the mechanical engineering team through mentoring and resource planning
• Contribute to project lifecycle from concept to commissioning and handover while ensuring integrated design
• Ensure compliance with framework specifications and project quality standards
• Travel to sites across operational region as required
• Participate in cross-functional design reviews and risk assessments

Key requirements

• Degree in Mechanical Engineering
• Chartered or Incorporated member of ICE, IMechE, or equivalent experience
• Ability to communicate effectively with team members and stakeholders
• Methodical approach to problem solving
• A valid driving licence and willingness to travel to sites across the region
• Water/wastewater experience
