Overview

In this Backend Software Engineer role, you design, build, and operate backend services that power AI-native features and automated workflows. You’ll productionize predictive models and LLM integrations, delivering reliable APIs and services that enhance user journeys. Collaborating with ML engineers, PMs, and designers, you shape product experiences that reduce manual work and increase proactive decision-making. This role emphasizes production readiness, observability, and secure, scalable architectures in an AI-first, product-led environment.

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and operate backend services and APIs powering AI/ML-enabled product features
• Translate predictive logic and AI outputs into reliable backend behaviors used by product flows
• Create service layers enabling intelligent features with strong latency, reliability, and security
• Ensure production readiness with ownership of deployment, monitoring, and maintainability
• Partner with ML Engineers to productionize models and expose via robust backend services
• Integrate model-serving APIs or LLM calls with retries, fallbacks, and observability
• Define evaluation/monitoring patterns for measurable intelligent behaviors
• Contribute to reusable backend patterns for AI capabilities across features
• Build backend capabilities to automate tasks, anticipate needs, and simplify workflows
• Collaborate with Product and Design to turn ideas into concrete backend implementations
• Balance rapid experimentation with long-term maintainability and trust
• Instrument services with logs, tracing, and metrics for production visibility
• Uphold standards on latency, resilience, and cost for AI-powered services
• Embrace ownership of health and quality of shipped features
• Work with ML Engineers, PMs, and Designers to deliver end-to-end AI-powered capabilities
• Collaborate with applicative squads to integrate AI/ML into existing journeys
• Define interfaces and integration patterns to simplify adoption of intelligent services
• Share best practices in backend reliability and AI feature delivery

Key requirements

• Significant backend software engineering experience in production environments
• Proven track record shipping reliable backend services with measurable impact
• Experience contributing to complex, fast-paced cross-functional product initiatives
• Exposure to ML-enabled or AI-enabled product features is a plus
• Strong backend skills with TypeScript/Node.js or related tech
• Experience designing APIs and service layers for complex workflows
• Understanding of distributed systems, async processing, and operational reliability
• Practical experience or strong interest in integrating predictive models, LLM APIs, or AI capabilities into backends
• Familiarity with Kafka, SQS, Step Functions, PostgreSQL, and modern observability practices
• Leadership: autonomous, product-minded, capable of owning backend systems from design to production
