Senior Civil Engineer

Overview

In this role you will join a Northampton-based civil and structural design practice to lead drainage design and related verification work. You’ll develop and review below-ground drainage solutions, support graduate engineers, and liaise with planning and flood authorities. The role combines technical design with mentoring and project coordination in a flexible, development-focused environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and review below-ground foul and surface water drainage systems
• Prepare and write detailed drainage strategies and verification reports
• Oversee technical work by graduates and project engineers and contribute to their training
• Apply SuDS concepts and conduct flood risk assessments
• Utilise MicroDrainage and InfoDrainage software for drainage modelling
• Produce drawings in AutoCAD and contribute to 3D civil design where applicable
• Coordinate with highways design interfaces and drainage interactions
• Liaise with local authority planning departments and lead local flood authorities
• Manage deadlines and organize own work
• Collaborate within a cross-functional design team in a hybrid working environment

Key requirements

• Minimum 5 years’ civil engineering experience
• Experience in drainage design for foul and surface water
• Ability to manage deadlines and self-organisation
• Experience overseeing graduates/projects and providing training
• Ability to write detailed drainage strategies and verification reports
• In-depth knowledge of SuDS and flood risk assessments
• Familiarity with MicroDrainage and InfoDrainage
• Ideally knowledge of 3D civil design software
• Familiarity with highways design interactions with drainage
• Full UK driving licence and own transport
• Competence in AutoCAD drafting
• Confident liaison with local authorities and flood authorities
