Placement Civil Engineer

Overview

In this 12-month placement, you will gain hands-on exposure across design and construction within our Yorkshire Water framework. You’ll work on real projects that benefit communities, supported by experienced mentors. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to learn how design, site surveys, and handover procedures come together in delivering projects. This role offers practical learnings, regional travel, and the chance for a future permanent opportunity aligned with your degree.

Responsibilities

• Assist in planning, design, construction, commissioning, handover and completion of projects
• Support the Project Leader (Designer) with preparation of design, technical drawings and documentation
• Assist the Site Engineer with setting out lines and levels using surveying equipment
• Carry out quality assurance and complete Inspection and Test Records
• Support safety, health & environment on site with Site Manager & Site Engineer
• Assist with day-to-day site operations, including materials and plant requisition
• Liaise with designers, support teams and supply chains
• Produce as-built surveys and records; compile completion documentation

Key requirements

• Full-time undergraduate degree student in Civil Engineering
• Basic understanding of civil engineering principles
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills
• Willingness to learn and adapt in a fast-paced environment
• Valid driving license and access to a car
• Willingness to travel to sites within the operational region
