Associate Mechanical Engineer (M&E)

Overview

In this role you will lead a small M&E design team in a Manchester-area consultancy, guiding projects from feasibility to post-occupancy. You will work closely with clients, shaping design solutions and managing relationships while reporting to the M&E Director. The opportunity supports growing the office and advancing to Associate Director within two years, driven by delivering robust designs and profitable project execution.

Responsibilities

• Manage a team of 5 Mechanical Design Engineers
• Provide expert design guidance to clients on live projects
• Maintain a client-facing role and manage client relationships
• Exercise business acumen to run the department with minimal supervision
• Lead projects, prepare fee bids, and mentor junior engineers
• Oversee projects from feasibility through construction to post-occupancy
• Contribute to the office growth target of 15%

Key requirements

• Experience managing a small/medium engineering team
• 8–10 years in MEP design and sustainability within a consultancy
• Experience on education and commercial sector projects
• Experience producing bids and tenders
