Associate Structural Engineer

Overview

As an Associate Structural Engineer at HDR you will lead structural design initiatives inside the Building Engineering Services Group, driving project delivery and profitability. You’ll provide technical oversight on complex schemes, mentor engineers, and manage client relationships to support HDR’s growth. The role sits within an employee-owned, collaborative culture focused on innovative infrastructure that powers progress. You will shape outcomes from concept to completion, contributing to sustainable, high-performance facilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and delivery of structural engineering projects from concept through to completion
• Provide technical oversight on complex schemes with innovative and efficient solutions
• Manage client relationships and represent the business at meetings and presentations
• Oversee project budgets, programmes and commercial performance
• Mentor and develop engineers and technicians within the team
• Support business development activities, bids and proposals
• Contribute to strategic growth plans and team expansion

Key requirements

• Degree-qualified in Civil or Structural Engineering
• Chartered or working towards Chartership (IStructE or ICE preferred)
• Minimum 6 years of proven experience in an engineering design consultancy delivering structural projects across sectors
• Experience with data centre projects desirable
• Strong knowledge of UK design standards and regulations
• Commercial awareness and experience managing project finances
• Confident communicator with leadership ambition
• Proficiency in Tekla, Tedds, ETABS, Robot, Revit
