Principal FDE – Software Engineer

Overview

In this AI Transformation role, you design and ship AI-powered applications and workflows that reshape how Microsoft Frontier Company operates. You work in small, multidisciplinary teams to move from prototype to production using AI-assisted coding and agentic tools. You’ll build reusable components and ensure security, reliability, and scalability while collaborating across engineers, scientists, TPMs, and operators. This is a hands-on, high-impact role for shaping AI-native operating models at scale.

Responsibilities

• Design and deploy production-grade AI-powered applications, agents, and workflows
• Prototype and iterate from requirements with real-world feedback while upholding reliability and performance
• Leverage AI-assisted coding tools across the software lifecycle to accelerate delivery
• Translate requirements into scalable technical designs, collaborating with engineers, scientists, TPMs, designers, and ops
• Apply strong software engineering practices including code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD, observability, and documentation
• Build reusable components, accelerators, and patterns to scale solutions across teams
• Learn quickly in ambiguous environments, experiment with AI technologies, iterate on outcomes
• Apply security-first mindset covering privacy, Responsible AI, compliance, and Microsoft engineering standards

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related technical field and coding experience in C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python or equivalent experience
