Senior Backend Python Developer with experience in Renewable Energy is needed for an Energy Tech firm, who are enabling a smarter, more flexible, and zero-carbon electricity grid.
With the energy system rapidly evolving and the demand for flexible, reliable, and zero-carbon electricity increasing, the focus of this role is on building the technology that enables smarter energy trading and power management. Working within a cross-functional, agile team, you’ll help develop our software platform, building scalable and reliable backend services that support automated energy trading, high-frequency telemetry from battery assets, and real-time control and dispatch across UK and international markets.
As a Backend Engineer, you will design, build, and maintain cloud-native services using Python and modern backend technologies, working with frameworks such as FastAPI or Django, alongside PostgreSQL and other distributed databases, event-driven technologies such as Kafka or Pulsar, and cloud infrastructure across AWS. You’ll work on high-volume data processing, APIs, microservices, and distributed systems, with a strong focus on scalability, reliability, and performance. You’ll also contribute to technical direction, engineering best practices, and mentoring within the team, while taking end-to-end ownership of the systems you build, including participating in an on-call rotation. The role requires a pragmatic and adaptable approach, balancing long-term technical strategy with the changing needs of a fast-moving energy industry.
This role is:
Paying up to £800/day Inside IR35
2-3 days per week in office – London City
