Lead TMS Engineer Rail

Overview

In this role you will help define how HS2’s Traffic Management System operates within a highly automated, integrated railway. You will act as a technical SME, aligning signalling, traffic management and operations to a cohesive, future-focused concept. You’ll influence operating principles during the concept phase and work across disciplines to shape the system’s requirements and interfaces. This is a rare chance to shape a high-capacity railway’s control of tomorrow.

Responsibilities

• Act as the TMS subject matter expert and maintain a whole-system perspective
• Define how TMS, signalling and real-time planning fit into broader operations
• Develop system requirements, concepts or solutions for complex rail systems
• Manage interfaces between multiple railway systems and stakeholders
• Challenge requirements and proposed solutions, not just apply existing processes
• Coordinate with technical, operational, supplier and delivery organisations
• Translate operational needs into practical system functionality
• Contribute within a complex multidisciplinary rail programme

Key requirements

• Significant experience with rail Traffic Management Systems or integrated control systems
• Strong understanding of railway operations and the link between signalling and real-time traffic management
• Experience developing requirements or concepts for complex railway systems
• Strong systems integration experience and interface management
• Ability to act as a technical SME with operational perspective
• Proven ability to challenge requirements and standards
• Strong stakeholder management across multiple organisations
• Experience in complex multidisciplinary rail programmes
