Overview

As a Mechanical Design Engineer at CHG Electrical, you translate concepts into buildable mechanical solutions for MEICA projects across water treatment sites. You’ll work in a cross-disciplinary team, shaping designs that interface with civil, electrical and ICA systems. The role offers site exposure, ongoing CPD and a clear path for progression. You’ll tackle challenging problems from pumps to process plant, contributing to high-profile water infrastructure schemes with practical, durable designs.

Responsibilities

• Prepare mechanical designs, drawings and calculations for pumps, pipework, valves, tanks and process plant
• Develop P&IDs, GA layouts and equipment schedules for project mobilisation
• Coordinate with civil, electrical and wider project teams to ensure integration across MEICA solutions
• Review subcontractor and supplier mechanical design proposals for buildability and technical alignment
• Ensure designs meet standards and water company requirements; participate in HAZOPs and CDM risk assessments
• Provide technical support to site teams during construction; respond to RFIs and design queries
• Contribute to O&M manuals and as-built records
• Develop sustainable, cost-effective solutions with whole-life asset performance in mind

Key requirements

• Around 3-5+ years’ mechanical design experience within utilities, infrastructure or water-related projects
• Experience designing pumps, pipework, valves, tanks and/or process plant
• Experience developing and interpreting P&IDs, GA layouts and process flow information
• Proficiency with AutoCAD and Inventor and pipework/process design tools
• Familiarity with WIMES, Sewerage Sector Guidance and relevant mechanical/process standards
• Knowledge of CDM regulations and temporary/permanent works
• Strong multidisciplinary design coordination and buildability understanding
• Good technical writing and communication skills
• Full UK driving licence
