Principal Platform Engineer (Cross Domain)

Overview

In this role you will lead and shape secure platform design and delivery for critical defence and government services. You will operate as a technical authority across platform domains, guiding projects from design through delivery in an agile, team-focused environment. You’ll work on on-prem, hybrid, and cloud platforms, solving complex needs with secure-by-design principles. This is a hands-on leadership role with mentoring responsibilities and a strong emphasis on cross-functional collaboration to meet mission-critical goals.

Responsibilities

• Act as technical authority across one or more platform domains (e.g., cloud, virtualisation, automation, networking, cyber tooling).
• Lead design and implementation of secure platforms across on-premise, hybrid, and cloud environments.
• Capture and interpret complex requirements to drive system design and architecture.
• Develop high- and low-level designs aligned with secure-by-design principles.
• Own technical delivery within work packages, including planning, estimation, and progress reporting.
• Mentor and develop engineers to raise capability across the community.
• Contribute to technology strategies, feasibility studies, and innovation projects.
• Engage with stakeholders to present and justify technical solutions.

• Automation and scripting (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ansible, Terraform)
• Knowledge of cyber security controls and accreditation requirements
• Experience across the systems engineering lifecycle
• Design and assurance of secure data flows across trust boundaries
• Delivery within highly controlled/secure environments (e.g., cross-domain, air-gapped, defence)
