Senior Quantity Surveyor – Highways – 45k-55k+pkg

Overview

As Senior Quantity Surveyor you will drive commercial performance on a major civil highways project, ensuring value, cash flow and risk are managed across the contract. You will lead a small team within the commercial function and partner with site teams to forecast financial outcomes, certify payments, and manage subcontractor accounts. This role offers exposure to a 5-year, high-value scheme with a focus on profitability, governance and ethical practice. You will work closely with cross-functional stakeholders to exceed business KPI targets.

Responsibilities

• Line management and integration of new team members
• Maximise cash flow and ensure timely payments
• Provide financial and contractual forecasts to management
• Prepare monthly cost/value reports and analyse trends
• Produce commercial performance reports and trend reviews
• Physically measure works and agree quantities with client/subcontractors
• Certify and pay subcontractor accounts; monitor against forecasts
• Implement contract change control procedures and issue notices as needed
• Provide commercial and contractual advice to the area team
• Manage subcontractors: inquiries, pricing, tender comparison, orders, accounts and payments
• Perform additional duties as required by management

Key requirements

• Experience with a sub/main contractor on a UK civil engineering project in a commercial role
• Desirable: HNC/HND/Degree in Quantity Surveying/Commercial Management
• Strong IT skills including Excel; proficient with MS Office
• Excellent written and verbal communication
• Excellent organisational and time management abilities
