Control and Instrumentation Engineer

Overview

In this role you will be the site SME for OT/IT systems, ensuring safety and regulatory compliance while keeping equipment at peak performance. You will collaborate with site and corporate teams to drive projects, budgets and contracts, and act as a bridge to the shared service center. The role combines engineering discipline with a focus on continuous improvement, safety, and cybersecurity within a process-plant environment. You will shape IT/OT strategy and lead capital projects to enable safer, more efficient operations.

Responsibilities

• Act as SME and primary contact for site IT/OT systems and infrastructure; perform maintenance, diagnose issues, and implement fixes
• Lead programming changes to DCS/PLC systems with appropriate MOC and commissioning checks
• Ensure compliance with legal, corporate, and local SH&E standards and manage alarm, functional safety, and SIL controls
• Support RCA activities for plant performance deviations and drive root-cause resolution
• Manage site IT/OT infrastructure (DCS I/O, controllers, gateways, servers, data historian, CCTV, backups) and coordinate with regional teams
• Assist in IT strategy development, policies, standards, and global IT alignment
• Provide project management and governance for the site Capital Projects portfolio
• Raise work and purchase orders; support training and knowledge management for IT/OT operations
• Support budget setting for IT software/hardware and DCS/PLC maintenance
• Act as liaison between shared-service-center and site to close IT-related issues efficiently
• Support and participate in risk, change, and cybersecurity initiatives
• Deliver a safety-first culture and continuous improvement actions across processes and environments
• Other reasonable duties as required

Key requirements

• Advanced knowledge of DCS/PLC hardware and software; design, commissioning, maintenance, troubleshooting
• Experience with DeltaV DCS; virtualization (HyperV, VMware) and failover
• Ladder logic experience and PLC maintenance ability
• Ability to interrogate data from site systems for troubleshooting
• Applied knowledge of cybersecurity protocols
• Strong problem-solving skills and structured decision-making (Kepner-Tregoe, Six Sigma, 5-Why)
• Advanced office IT hardware/software/network knowledge
• BSc in Chemical Engineering or related field; process control/instrumentation background
• Fluency in English
