Non-Contentious Construction Senior Associate

Overview

In this role you will lead on non-contentious construction matters for high-value development projects, collaborating with cross-functional teams in a renowned West End firm. You will shape contract strategy, manage client relationships, and mentor junior lawyers as the practice grows toward partnership. The role combines hands-on drafting with strategic oversight on complex developments and financing. You will work in a supportive, entrepreneurial culture focused on growth and innovation.

Responsibilities

• Lead on a broad range of non-contentious construction matters for development projects
• Procurement and contract strategy development
• Drafting and negotiating JCT, NEC and bespoke contracts
• Draft development agreements and development management agreements
• Prepare professional appointments, consultant documentation and related agreements
• Handle pre-construction services agreements and letters of intent
• Manage collateral warranties and third-party rights arrangements
• Oversee performance bonds, guarantees, and security packages
• Address construction aspects of real estate finance transactions
• Contribute to large-scale residential, mixed-use, commercial and hospitality developments
• Develop risk allocation and project structuring strategies to avoid disputes
• Supervise and mentor junior lawyers and support their professional development
• Manage client relationships and participate in business development and strategic growth
• Collaborate with partners on client management and expansion of the practice

Key requirements

• 5+ years’ PQE (England & Wales) in non-contentious construction
• Experience on development projects and construction aspects of real estate transactions
• Excellent drafting and negotiation across construction documentation
• Strong commercial awareness and pragmatic problem solving
• Proven ability to manage client relationships with appropriate supervision
• Interest in mentoring and contributing to team development
• Enthusiasm for business development and growing an established practice
