Overview

As Consumer Reporter for LADwallet, you lead timely money and consumer stories, shaping LADwallet into a trusted, useful destination. You’ll own the daily consumer-news agenda, produce explainers and guides, and develop sources across regulators, brands and experts. Your work informs readers and links complex issues to practical actions. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to reach audiences across platforms and test new formats for loyalty and trust.

Responsibilities

  • Lead LADwallet’s daily consumer-news agenda and identify priority stories
  • Cover breaking developments across banking, borrowing, bills, energy, housing, taxes, scams and consumer rights
  • Produce reactive stories, explainers, guides, comparisons, checklists and wallet-focused pieces
  • Generate original reporting via FOI requests, reader case studies, expert commentary, data and public records
  • Build and maintain contacts across consumer bodies, regulators, charities, brands and experts
  • Monitor policy changes, official announcements and online conversations for fresh angles
  • Translate complex issues into clear journalism, outlining who is affected and what readers should do
  • Pitch original ideas and follow-ups prioritising reader value over rewrites
  • Write accurate, engaging copy at pace meeting editorial, legal and accuracy standards
  • Collaborate with Editorial, SEO, Audience, Social, Video, Commercial and Affiliate teams
  • Use performance data (sessions, engagement, search trends) to improve coverage
  • Contribute to repeatable editorial formats and test new loyalty-building formats
  • Support general LADbible news coverage including weekends and major breaking moments

Key requirements

  • Proven experience as a digital journalist or reporter
  • Strong news instinct and ability to identify human consequences of policy or price changes
  • Experience sourcing, pitching and writing fast-turnaround digital stories
  • Comfort with primary sources, official data, regulatory announcements and expert commentary
  • Track record of finding original angles and building exclusive or distinctive stories
  • Excellent writing, headlines and storytelling skills; ability to simplify complex topics
  • Strong understanding of SEO, search trends and digital-news performance, plus willingness to learn from data
  • Rigorous accuracy, and understanding of legal/compliance in consumer/financial content
  • Understanding of LADbible’s tone, audience and social-first storytelling
  • Collaborative, proactive, able to work at pace in a busy newsroom
