Senior / Principal Civil Engineer

Overview

In this role you will support delivery of land development and regeneration projects through high-quality civil infrastructure design. You will work within an expanding Cambridge team to produce design drawings and calculations for planning, planning conditions, and construction approvals. You’ll apply design codes and standards to highway and drainage schemes and mentor junior staff, contributing to successful project delivery for a range of clients. This is a hands-on role with a focus on practical, compliant engineering and cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Prepare design drawings and calculations for planning applications, discharge of conditions, and technical approvals
• Develop highway and drainage designs for private and adoptable systems
• Apply UK design codes and standards (Manual for Streets, DMRB, Local Authority guides, SuDS Manual, Building Regulations)
• Produce technical drawings for planning, tender, and construction stages
• Support delivery by coordinating with planning and regulatory processes (Section 38/278 and Section 104)
• Mentor and develop junior staff
• Utilise 3D modelling tools and software (MicroDrainage, AutoCAD) for infrastructure projects
• Contribute to land development/regeneration project delivery across sectors

Key requirements

• Consultancy/private sector development background
• Experience in land development/regeneration projects
• Experience preparing highway and drainage designs
• Knowledge of design codes and standards (MfS, DMRB, Local Authority guides, SuDS Manual, DCG, Building Regulations)
• Education: minimum HNC or BEng Civil Engineering
• Ability to mentor juniors
• Experience producing technical drawings for planning, tender, and construction
• Numerate and software literate; experience with 3D modelling, MicroDrainage and AutoCAD
• Understanding of Section 38/278 and/or Section 104 agreements
