Quantity Surveyor – Civil Engineering

Overview

As a Quantity Surveyor in a leading civil engineering contractor, you will manage commercial and contractual aspects on highway, structural and infrastructure schemes in London. You will liaise with project teams to control costs, prepare valuations, and drive value through procurement and cost reporting. You’ll work on projects ranging from mid to large scale, collaborating with clients and subcontractors to maximise value and minimise risk. This role offers exposure to high-profile infrastructure work and the chance to develop leadership within a supportive, performance‑driven environment.

Responsibilities

• Prepare internal commercial reports and other required outputs
• Prepare valuations/applications for payment with full documentation
• Prepare cost reports for the client with compliant documentation
• Manage subcontract and material procurement schedules
• Administer subcontractor/supplier accounts from requisitions to final accounts
• Perform contract administration including change management and maintain registers
• Identify commercial risks, opportunities, value engineering and changes
• Utilise the costing system for cost control and reporting
• Assist in cost control and cost mitigation
• Lead measurement of quantities per standard methods and maintain site records
• Adhere to group procedures and maintain positive client engagement
• Assist in the preparation of project final accounts
• Draft subcontracts including professional services
• Identify insurance claims and understand policy coverage
• Manage cash including WIP and cash flow production

Key requirements

• Degree in Civil Engineering, Quantity Surveying or similar
• 3 Years’ experience in civil engineering working on highways, structures and infrastructure
• Experience on schemes worth 7M+
• Procurement (BoQ, enquiries, subcontracts)
• Value engineering (materials, design, construction techniques)
• Main contract administration (change control, disputes, value maximisation)
• Subcontract administration (change control, dispute, cost minimisation)
• Cost reporting (costing databases like Maxcel, CVRs, cashflows)
• Construction knowledge (types of build/technologies)
• Final accounts / negotiating
