Civil Engineer – Renewables & Infrastructure

Overview

In this Civil Engineer role, you will provide specialist civil engineering across UK utility-scale Solar, Wind, BESS, and related infra, from early development through construction to handover. You will act as the technical authority for civil work, ensuring safe, compliant, and buildable designs aligned with standards. You will lead design assurance, review EPC deliverables, and support asset-handover with durable, maintainable infrastructure. This role offers impact by shaping large-scale energy projects and cross-functional collaboration within a fast-growing renewables company.

Responsibilities

• Act as civil engineering subject matter expert across infrastructure projects
• Provide technical leadership on earthworks, drainage, access roads, foundations, cable routes, and site infrastructure
• Review and approve civil engineering designs from EPCs, consultants, and contractors
• Ensure civil works are safe, buildable, cost-effective and aligned with standards
• Provide design optimisation for constructability and long-term asset performance
• Review drawings, calculations, reports, and specifications for compliance
• Identify and mitigate design risks, ground condition challenges, and interface issues
• Ensure consistency of civil design standards across the project portfolio
• Provide engineering assurance through development, construction and handover
• Support civil input from development to commissioning and handover to Asset Management
• Assist EPC interface and respond to technical queries (RFIs, TQs)
• Ensure alignment between design intent, procurement, and construction execution strategies
• Support handover to Asset Management for durable, maintainable infrastructure
• Oversee site civil works inspections and quality checks
• Resolve on-site civil engineering issues and design changes
• Close-out punch lists, as-built validation, and handover readiness
• Interface with EPC contractors, subcontractors, consultants, and independent engineers
• Support due diligence processes and lender advisory requirements
• Collaborate with Development, Construction, and Asset Management teams
• Act as escalation point for complex civil issues

Key requirements

• 3–7 years of civil engineering experience in construction, infrastructure, energy or renewables
• Strong experience in utility-scale Solar PV, Wind, BESS, or large-scale projects
• Deep knowledge of earthworks, drainage, roads, foundations, and underground services
• Experience reviewing civil drawings, designs, and technical documentation
• Strong constructability, site logistics, and ground engineering understanding
• Ability to critically assess EPC/consultant outputs
• Exposure to construction site environments and delivery phases
• Strong understanding of UK civil engineering standards, safety, and compliance
