Engineering Manager (Remote – UK)

Overview

In this role you will lead a team of engineers to shape technical direction and deliver modern AWS-native platforms. You will foster psychological safety, continuous improvement, and pragmatic AI adoption while staying close to hands-on engineering work. You’ll align with product and architecture to set strategy, balance feature delivery with platform health, and help teams scale with best practices. Responsibilities

• Lead, grow and support inclusive engineering teams
• Hire and onboard new team members; conduct 1:1s, coaching and development plans
• Maintain understanding of team strengths and future needs
• Support engineers and partners using Agile and Lean practices
• Shape technical strategy and delivery plans with Product and Architecture
• Guide AWS-native and cloud-based platform development; manage legacy systems
• Uphold engineering standards: code quality, testing, CI/CD, observability, documentation
• Stay close to design reviews, architecture discussions, and hands-on coaching
• Balance feature delivery with tech debt, reliability, security, and long-term health
• Remove blockers and risks to enable predictable, sustainable delivery
• Lead AI tooling adoption to improve developer productivity and software quality
• Promote operational excellence in delivery commitments and metrics
• Improve developer experience and on-call practices
• Promote cost awareness across AWS environments
• Collaborate with other Engineering Managers through Communities of Practice

Key requirements

• Strong software engineering background with years in technical leadership and people management
• Experience building and scaling high-performing engineering teams
• Delivery experience with customer-facing web applications
• Agile experience with continuous improvement mindset
• Experience leading change across technology, process or ways of working
• Hands-on experience with AI/ML tools within engineering teams
• Cloud-native architecture knowledge, AWS, distributed systems
• Proficiency in at least one modern programming language
• Strong understanding of system design and software engineering fundamentals
• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, observability and secure production systems
• Ability to communicate technical ideas to technical and non-technical stakeholders
