Principal Civil Infrastructure Engineer – Site Development

Overview

As Principal Civil Infrastructure Engineer in Site Development, you will lead growth and delivery of our site development capability in Whitehaven, guiding multi-disciplinary projects and acting as Responsible Engineer. You will mentor engineers, build trusted client relationships, and influence regional infrastructure capability. You’ll apply specialist expertise to complex civil challenges and connect technical solutions to broader project outcomes, contributing to Arup’s North-wide impact and sustainable development.

Responsibilities

• Lead growth and delivery of site development capability in Whitehaven and across the North
• Manage and guide multi-disciplinary projects, providing technical knowledge and mentoring
• Act as Responsible Engineer on projects and guide complex client-facing engagements
• Collaborate with clients, colleagues and stakeholders to deliver high-quality outcomes
• Support development of technical capability and mentoring within the team
• Contribute to broader project outcomes by applying specialist civil infrastructure expertise
• Interface planning, design and delivery to unlock development sites across frameworks like Sellafield and United Utilities

Key requirements

• Chartered status (CEng or IEng) through ICE or a relevant professional body
• Experience in site development and civil infrastructure design and delivery in complex or regulated environments (e.g., nuclear, utilities)
• Experience leading, coaching or supporting teams and delivering high-quality outcomes
• Experience working in client-facing and construction environments with ability to build trusted relationships
• Strong collaboration skills across multi-disciplinary teams or locations
• Commercial awareness and ability to support project and business performance
• Holding security clearance (e.g., BPSS, SC, or Sellafield-specific clearances) would be advantageous
