Staff Software Engineer, Labs Science

Overview

As a Software Engineer, you will help translate breakthrough GenAI research from Google DeepMind into user-centric products that accelerate scientific discovery. You will architect new products, moving quickly from prototypes to production-ready services in a dynamic environment. You will design agentic systems and multi-step AI prompts to tackle open-ended scientific tasks with the latest LLM reasoning. You will establish performance metrics and guide model fine-tuning for real-world use cases. You’ll partner with PMs and UX to create features that genuinely delight researchers.

Responsibilities

• Translate GenAI research assets into intuitive products
• Architect and build new products from scratch, from prototype to production
• Design agentic systems and multi-step AI prompts for complex scientific tasks
• Define frameworks and metrics to measure model performance and drive improvements
• Collaborate with Product Managers and UX to identify user needs and iterate features
• Work with DeepMind in a search for scalable, user-centric AI solutions

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience
• 8 years of full-stack software development (C++, Java, Kotlin, TypeScript)
• 3 years of front-end, full-stack, or API development
• 1 year of software design, architecture, and machine learning
• 1 year of agentic coding
