Overview

In this role you will own and develop project models for innovative energy solutions, price offers, and assess financial viability for large-scale projects. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams to support investment decisions and monitor project performance. The role combines finance, market knowledge, and technical modelling to drive fast, data-driven outcomes. You will be at the heart of turning unique private wire and behind-the-meter opportunities into bankable propositions, helping scale Octopus’ energy solutions for datacenters and industry.

Responsibilities

  • Own and develop project models for opportunities including generation, BESS, flexible load, and network costs; estimate capex, opex, revenue stacks, IRR and downside scenarios
  • Price offers by translating load profiles and reliability needs into deliverable structures (tariff, PPA, tolling, availability-based) balancing risk for both sides
  • Value storage and flexible load using wholesale markets, Balancing Mechanism, ancillary services and Capacity Market; quantify network charges and connection options
  • Develop business cases and create internal/external presentations to support from indicative proposals to final investment decisions
  • Track portfolio performance against approved cases; monitor spend, milestones, connection dates and regulatory changes; assist with diligence

Key requirements

  • 3–5 years in a numerate commercial role related to infrastructure or renewables, project finance, banking, energy trading or origination, strategy or consultancy
  • Financial modelling from first principles (DCF, IRR, scenarios, sensitivities) with ability to standardize for team use
  • Advanced knowledge of GB/European power markets and how network and connection costs impact a project
  • Advanced Excel and Python
  • Ability to turn a messy problem into a clear recommendation
  • Quantitative degree in economics, engineering, finance, maths, physics or equivalent experience
  • Analytical mindset
  • Clear communication of complex ideas
  • Ability to work autonomously and take ownership
  • Financial modelling (DCF, IRR, scenarios, sensitivities)
  • GB/European power markets knowledge
  • Excel (advanced) and Python
