Technical Lead, Power System Studies

Overview

As Senior Electrical Engineer and Technical Lead in EMT, you guide a team delivering electromagnetic transient studies for generation, transmission, and distribution, including HVDC and IBR systems. You shape study methodologies, client communications, and proposals while helping steer the center of excellence on industry trends and new technologies. You’ll collaborate with clients and global leaders to advance clean energy, grid modernization, and complex power systems. This role combines technical leadership with business development and strategic direction.

Responsibilities

• Lead EMT power system studies projects and mentor the studies team
• Develop study methodologies, build models, run simulations, and review results
• Report progress and final results to clients; ensure timely, high-quality deliverables
• Provide AC/DC transmission system design/operation support
• Allocate resources to ensure on-time delivery
• Contribute to marketing, proposals, and client relations in EMT and power system studies
• Manage R&D activities and explore new techniques and technologies
• Engage with IEEE, CIGRE, IEC groups; write papers and present findings

Key requirements

• Expert EMT analysis experience with static/dynamic modelling of HVDC converters, STATCOMs, SVCs, and power electronics
• Proficiency in PSCAD and other EMT tools; experience with PSSE, PSLF, ASPEN, ETAP, CYME, DSATools, DIgSILENT PowerFactory
• Strong client interaction and project delivery capabilities
• Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team
• Excellent written and spoken English; additional languages an asset
• Knowledge of North American power systems, standards like NERC TPL
• Microsoft Office proficiency; willingness to travel
