Rail Advisory Consultant – Rail Asset Management & Maintenance

Overview

In this role you will shape asset management strategies for rail organisations within WSPs Rail Advisory team. You will blend rail maintenance advisory, asset management, and high-level consulting across rail systems, signalling, and rolling stock. You’ll work with clients to resolve issues and drive strategic change, applying standards such as ISO 55000 family. The role combines hands-on problem solving with strategic planning across diverse projects and international opportunities. You will help future-proof rail operations by integrating new technologies into value-driven solutions.

Responsibilities

• Shape and evolve Asset Management strategies aligned with organisational goals and best practices
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to align designs with requirements and strategic objectives
• Develop Asset Management and Maintenance strategies for rail organisations
• Develop, maintain and optimise Asset Management, Maintenance and Renewal plans for multidisciplinary assets
• Conduct whole life cost models and asset management plans
• Coordinate PRAMS analysis, condition assessments, and risk-based maintenance planning
• Support integration of digital asset management systems
• Facilitate workshops with clients and delivery partners

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, Computer Science, Asset Management, Rail Systems, or related field
• Chartered Engineer with a Professional Engineering Council (e.g., IMechE, IET, IEE) or equivalent
• Strong understanding of Asset Management principles and ISO 55000/55001/55002
• Experience in rail infrastructure maintenance or rail signalling maintenance
• Strong understanding of asset lifecycle, regulatory frameworks, and digital tools
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
• Experience in asset data analytics, modelling and reporting
• Proven ability to work independently across multiple projects
• Ability to build relationships with clients and cross-functional teams
