Senior Civil Engineer

Overview

Senior Civil Engineer in the Buildings team focused on delivering civil design solutions for multi-disciplinary projects. You will support feasibility through construction by producing plans, reports and earthworks, drainage, and road design while coordinating with clients, authorities, and specialists. You’ll lead design development, mentor junior staff, and help shape infrastructure schemes with a client-focused delivery mindset. Responsibilities

• Lead planning and development of civil engineering design solutions
• Prepare plans and drawings across development stages from concept to construction
• Develop fee proposals, scope, budget and programme
• Design earthworks, internal site roads, pavement and drainage; prepare associated specifications
• Ensure high-quality delivery via QA checks
• Liaise with Local Authorities and stakeholders for approvals
• Prepare technical reports (drainage strategies, notes, condition surveys)
• Prepare technical submission packages (highways S278/38/50; sewers S104/185; SAB)
• Engage with clients, third parties and multi-disciplinary teams to resolve design issues
• Advise on timescales, monitor progress, and conduct site visits as needed
• Contribute to project layout, drainage, highways, 3D earthworks models; assist with 2D drawings
• Identify and coordinate utilities and constraints
• Support cost control, value engineering and task efficiency
• Delegate work to junior engineers and mentor them
• Participate in project meetings and with approving authorities
• Assist with resource planning and handling site/design queries

Key requirements

• Degree qualified in Civil Engineering
• Minimum 5 years post-graduate experience
• Chartered or Incorporated Engineer (ICE) or progressing toward chartership
• Proven experience delivering commercially successful projects with strong client engagement
• Experience in coaching and managing junior engineers is preferable
• Experience in drainage strategies for planning; sustainable drainage solutions; earthworks modelling (or willingness to learn); pavement design (or willingness to learn)
• Proficiency in AutoCAD and InfoDrainage; knowledge of Civil 3D, collaborative platforms, data environments, project management tools, and NBS Chorus (awareness/growth)
