Senior Mechanical Design Engineer
Location: Birmingham City Centre / Jewellery Quarter
Salary: £45,000-£52,000

An employee-owned building services and sustainability consultancy is looking for a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer to join its growing Birmingham team.
The business delivers mechanical, electrical, energy and sustainability services across commercial, industrial, healthcare, residential, retail, care and mixed-use developments.
This position offers responsibility for your own projects, direct client contact and the opportunity to help develop junior engineers.
The role
- Design HVAC, LTHW, chilled-water and ventilation systems
- Produce calculations, specifications, schedules and technical reports
- Coordinate drawings with the in-house CAD team and other disciplines
- Develop low-carbon and energy-efficient mechanical solutions
- Manage project programmes, budgets and technical deliverables
- Attend client meetings and liaise with architects and contractors
- Undertake site monitoring while supporting junior engineers and technicians
Your experience
- Mechanical building services design experience within a consultancy
- A relevant mechanical or building services engineering qualification
- Experience delivering projects through multiple RIBA stages
- Strong knowledge of HVAC, LTHW, chilled-water and ventilation systems
- Experience with mechanical design software, IES and CAD/BIM workflows
- Strong client-facing, communication and project-management skills
Chartered status or progress towards Chartership would be beneficial. Healthcare, HTM or CIBSE Low Carbon Consultant/Energy Assessor experience would also be welcomed but is not essential.
