Lead Developer – Scala

I’m currently recruiting for a Lead Developer to join an exciting public sector programme.

Location: Remote, with 2 days/month in Newcastle

We’re looking for an experienced Scala Lead Developer who can provide hands-on technical leadership while helping design and deliver full-stack solutions across front-end and back-end layers.

What you’ll be doing:

• Leading the design and implementation of Scala-based solutions
• Providing technical leadership, mentoring and guidance to developers
• Building and maintaining microservices using Play Framework
• Driving architectural discussions and technical decisions
• Championing best practices around code quality, testing and deployment
• Collaborating with DevOps, QA and wider stakeholders
• Working across large codebases and influencing technical direction

Key experience:

• Strong Scala & functional programming experience
• Proven Lead Developer / technical leadership experience
• Experience influencing architectural decisions
• CI/CD, Git and modern development tooling
• MacOS or Linux experience
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
