Job Description:

The Quality Control (QC) Inspector is responsible for ensuring that all incoming materials, in-process products, and finished goods meet company quality standards, engineering drawings, customer specifications, and relevant industry requirements. The QC Inspector will carry out inspections, record inspection results, identify non-conformances, and work closely with production and engineering teams to ensure products are manufactured Right First Time.

Key Responsibilities

Quality Inspection

  • Perform inspection and testing of incoming materials, in-process production, and finished goods in accordance with engineering drawings, specifications and quality procedures.
  • Carry out visual, dimensional and functional inspections using appropriate measuring equipment (calipers, micrometers, gauges, surface finish testers, CMM if applicable).
  • Complete inspection records, checklists and quality documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all products are inspected prior to despatch and released only when quality requirements have been met.
  • Verify material certification, inspection reports and documentation where required.

Quality Control Processes

  • Identify, record and segregate non-conforming products and materials.
  • Raise Non-Conformance Reports (NCRs & CAIR) and support investigations into quality issues.
  • Assist in root cause analysis and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support continuous monitoring of production quality and report recurring issues or trends.
  • Ensure inspection equipment is used correctly and report any calibration issues.

Documentation & Compliance

  • Maintain accurate inspection records and quality documentation in accordance with ISO 9001 and company procedures.
  • Ensure traceability records are completed where applicable.
  • Support internal and external quality audits by providing inspection records and evidence of compliance.
  • Work closely with production teams to improve product quality and reduce defects.
  • Identify opportunities to improve inspection methods, quality documentation and manufacturing processes.
  • Provide feedback to the QHSE Manager on recurring quality concerns.

Additional Duties

  • Assist with customer inspections and supplier quality activities as required.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.

Key Qualifications

Knowledge

  • Previous experience in a Quality Control or Inspection role within a manufacturing or engineering environment.
  • Good understanding of engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Working knowledge of ISO 9001 quality management systems.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes including fabrication, machining and assembly.
  • Familiarity with quality inspection techniques and documentation.

Skills

  • Competent in the use of inspection and measuring equipment including verniers, micrometers, height gauges, dial indicators and gauges.
  • Ability to accurately read engineering drawings and tolerances.
  • Strong attention to detail with excellent record keeping skills.
  • Good problem-solving skills and the ability to identify quality concerns.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Knowledge of MRP systems will be ideal (CIM50).

Qualifications

  • Engineering apprenticeship, NVQ Level 3, City & Guilds, HNC or equivalent engineering qualification preferred.
  • Internal Quality Inspection or Quality Assurance training would be advantageous (ISO9001 and ISO14001 standards).
