An established, family-owned engineering manufacturer is looking for a Purchasing Manager to lead its day-to-day procurement and keep production supplied with the right materials, at the right cost and on time.
With an 80-year history, the business designs, manufactures and repairs industrial vibratory and bulk materials handling equipment for customers across global industrial markets. This is an opportunity to take ownership of supplier relationships and make a visible difference to cost, quality and delivery.
The role
You’ll source ferrous and non-ferrous castings, engineering bar and plate, electrical lamination stacks, laser-cut and pressed components, alongside associated products and indirect services.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Managing purchasing activity to maintain an uninterrupted supply for production.
- Negotiating prices, contracts and lead times with UK and international suppliers.
- Identifying cost-saving opportunities while maintaining quality standards.
- Working with production, engineering and quality teams on existing products and new product introductions.
- Using MRP and stock data to manage inventory and spot potential shortages.
- Managing supply chain risks and ensuring compliance with company policies, customs requirements and ethical sourcing standards.
- Travelling overseas to meet suppliers where appropriate.
What we’re looking for
- Purchasing or procurement management experience in manufacturing, ideally engineering.
- Experience buying technical materials or components.
- Strong supplier negotiation, commercial and analytical skills.
- Confidence using MRP and stock management systems.
- CIPS qualified or working towards MCIPS would be an advantage.
