Overview

In this role you will maintain safe, reliable site operations through CMMS-driven planning and hands-on fault diagnosis. You’ll oversee maintenance contracts, supervise contractors, and ensure compliance with safety regs while driving continuous improvement. You will support plant reliability, oversee process equipment, and coordinate capital and site improvement projects. This is a hands-on role at a COMAH facility with a strong emphasis on safety and operation efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Administer and continuously improve the SHIRE CMMS, maintaining asset records, maintenance schedules, and inspections.
  • Oversee maintenance contracts and schedule third-party inspections for systems like air compressors and effluent plants.
  • Repair, test and record activities related to pressure containers and associated equipment.
  • Supervise contractors on site under Permit to Work procedures.
  • Diagnose faults and perform minor repairs on process plant, pumps, piping, and instrumentation to ensure safe operation.
  • Support site operators and Operations Manager with safety checks and calibrations as part of planned maintenance.
  • Manage the site effluent treatment facility within consent limits.
  • Handle general buildings and site maintenance; undertake additional tasks as requested by line managers.
  • Deputise for plant production personnel when required; participate in on-call or emergency response as needed.
  • Lead or support capital and site improvement projects from scope to commissioning.
  • Act as Site Permit Controller, review RAMS and issue permits for maintenance, isolation, confined space entry and work at height.
  • Conduct mechanical, electrical and process isolations per site procedures and safe systems of work.
  • Investigate equipment/process failures, perform RCA and implement corrective/preventative actions.
  • Collaborate with Site Manager on continuous improvement initiatives for safety, compliance, reliability and performance.

Key requirements

  • Chemical industry background on a COMAH facility (preferred).
  • Experience in a safety-driven environment (essential).
  • Experience using a CMMS (essential; SHIRE System used).
  • Experience in liquid process engineering in manufacturing (essential).
  • Knowledge of Health and Safety at Work Act, COMAH, PUWER, LOLER, Electricity at Work and Confined Space Working (essential).
  • HND/NVQ Equivalent – Mechanical/Electrical Engineering.
