Principal Firmware Engineer

Overview

As Staff Firmware Engineer you will lead low-level firmware work for cutting-edge satellite systems, combining hands-on development with technical leadership. You’ll collaborate with hardware and systems teams to drive chip bring-up, real-time software, and reliable platform capabilities. You’ll mentor engineers, shape delivery of features, and own workstreams within complex projects. This hybrid role sits at Farnborough, offering impactful work on advanced beamforming and wireless platforms.

Responsibilities

• develop and maintain low-level firmware in C across real-time/embedded systems
• perform chip bring-up and close work with hardware drivers
• drive real-time system development and platform stability
• mentoring engineers and assuming technical leadership within the team
• own features and manage workstreams across projects
• collaborate with hardware and systems engineers to ensure integrated delivery

Key requirements

• Strong experience developing low-level firmware in C
• Proven background in real-time or embedded systems
• Experience working close to hardware, drivers and chip-level software
• Ability to mentor engineers and take on technical leadership responsibilities
