Overview

In this role you lead plant layout integration for Fusion and Modular Nuclear programmes, acting as a subject-matter expert and technical lead across complex facilities. You drive layout development, multidisciplinary coordination, and engineering governance while shaping best practices and providing hands-on delivery support. Your work enables safe, constructible designs and aligns with strategic project goals. This position offers impact across design, capability growth, and client-facing engineering leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Lead concept-to-detailed design for complex plant layouts
  • Act as technical lead for major buildings and programme-level integration
  • Coordinate equipment, piping, cable tray, access and maintenance layouts
  • Lead piping routing studies and layout optimisation
  • Provide technical leadership across multiple projects and programmes
  • Drive requirements-driven layout development and multidisciplinary integration
  • Define layout integration methodologies and standards
  • Lead optioneering, constructability, modularisation and plant integration studies
  • Lead complex multidisciplinary reviews and technical workshops
  • Ensure layout solutions meet operational, safety, constructability and lifecycle requirements
  • Support bids, proposals and client engagement
  • Develop layout standards, procedures and best-practice guidance
  • Mentor engineers and support capability development
  • Support recruitment and capability growth
  • Author and review technical reports and client-facing documentation

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience in plant layout, piping layout, plant integration and multidisciplinary delivery
  • Experience leading complex engineering studies and technical decision-making
  • Strong systems engineering, requirements management and interface management
  • Understanding of constructability, maintainability, modularisation and lifecycle considerations
  • Experience leading multidisciplinary teams, workshops and design reviews
  • Experience supporting major design reviews and engineering assurance processes
  • Experience using E3D, PDMS, Plant 3D, Siemens NX, Revit, Inventor and Navisworks or equivalents
  • Excellent report writing, presentation and stakeholder management skills
  • Proven ability to influence senior stakeholders, clients and project teams
  • Ability to define engineering strategy while remaining engaged in technical delivery
  • SC Clearance or capable of achieving it
