Senior Software Engineer II – Contacts Team – Java

Overview

In this role, you will own the backend vision for our recipient management experience, enabling scalable, reliable interactions with billions of money movements. You will help build a world-class recipient management product and ensure the services stay up as Wise scales. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to ship customer-focused features and improve reliability and performance. This is a chance to shape core infrastructure that powers the Wise recipient experience and impact millions of users globally.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive the backend technical vision for the recipient experience
• Scale and build the recipient management product
• Collaborate with designers, product manager, and analysts in an agile setup
• Design, deploy, and maintain RESTful APIs
• Work with large-scale distributed systems to ensure reliability
• Implement and promote testable code and practices (TDD)
• Perform database design, query optimisation, and schema design
• participate in code reviews and open feedback cycles

Key requirements

• Experience with large-scale distributed systems
• Java 8+ knowledge
• Relational and non-relational databases, query optimisation and schema design
• Strong product mindset with customer-centric, data-driven decision making
• Collaborative mindset and ability to bring people together to solve problems
• Experience designing, deploying and maintaining RESTful APIs
• Commitment to coding best practices, code reviews and feedback
• Experience with Test Driven Development
