Data Acquisition Engineer

Overview

In this role, you will plan, install, and support instrumentation for McLaren’s development vehicles and test rigs, collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet project requirements. You will design and maintain measurement systems and microcontroller-based solutions to automate tests, while ensuring data integrity and calibration compliance. You will support global testing activities and enable precise data analysis to drive engineering decisions. This role offers the chance to influence instrumentation strategy on high-performance programs and work within a specialized development team at the McLaren Technology Centre.

Responsibilities

• Plan and coordinate vehicle instrumentation across projects and test assets
• Lead design, installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of instrumentation & measurement systems
• Develop microcontroller solutions (Arduino, Raspberry Pi) to automate test rigs
• Support testing of prototype/production vehicles and perform data analysis and fault rectification
• Ensure calibration compliance and maintain records for master reference equipment
• Maintain instrumentation records and ensure test data safety, backups, and configuration control

Key requirements

• Degree-level education in a relevant engineering discipline or equivalent experience
• Experience as an instrumentation/test engineer in vehicle development
• Proficiency with Ipetronik, Dewesoft, Vector Canalyzer and associated calibration/diagnostic tools
• Knowledge of sensor specification, calibration to ISO17025, and suitable measurement techniques
• Working knowledge of analog electronics, vehicle wiring systems, CAN/LIN networking, and automotive ethernet (advantage)
• Experience with inertial systems (RTK GPS), wheel force transducers, strain gauging; familiarity with Arduino, Raspberry Pi, PLC, Python
• Experience in vehicle data analysis and root-cause analysis
• Ability to develop tests/measurement solutions for new technologies
