Site Engineer

Overview

In this Site Engineer role, you will oversee safe, quality-focused site delivery for the Netherton Hub project, a major energy infrastructure initiative. You will work within Design Engineering to align earthworks, drainage, and substations with project specs, while coordinating with SSEN, designers, and subcontractors. You’ll drive issue resolution, planning, and documentation that support on-time, compliant progress. This position offers hands-on exposure to a high-profile HVDC/transmission program with clear development opportunities.

Responsibilities

• Set out works accurately per drawings and tolerances
• Supervise day-to-day site activities across earthworks, drainage, roads, ducting, foundations and utilities
• Conduct site surveys and maintain survey control points
• Review drawings and technical information to resolve engineering issues
• Produce and maintain ITPs, check sheets, and as-built documentation
• Monitor subcontractor performance for schedule, quality and safety compliance
• Coordinate interfaces between civil, HVDC, substation, cable and building work packages
• Manage permits, temporary works and engineering compliance on site
• Assist with short-term planning aligned to project programme
• Identify and implement productivity improvements and value engineering
• Maintain daily records, site diaries, and progress reports
• Support testing and commissioning activities for substations and routes
• Build relationships with SSEN, designers, subcontractors and local stakeholders
• Mentor graduate and assistant engineers to promote engineering excellence
• Raise and close NCRs and quality issues promptly
• Coordinate material deliveries, plant, and logistics on site
• Support environmental controls and drainage/water management

Key requirements

• Degree, HNC, HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering or related discipline
• Valid CSCS card
• Full UK driving licence
• Experience as Site Engineer on major infrastructure/transmission/energy projects
• Experience setting out earthworks, roads, drainage, reinforced concrete and utilities
• Knowledge of QA processes, ITPs, and completion documentation
• Experience managing subcontractors and multi-front coordination
• Familiarity with NEC contracts and collaborative delivery environments
• Experience working under strict health, safety and environmental requirements
• Experience in substation/HVDC/utility projects is advantageous
