Site Maintenance Engineer

Overview

As a Multi-Skilled, electrically biased Maintenance Engineer at our Hemel Hempstead lab, you’ll support and run maintenance and small-scale projects within the Lab Operations Support team. You’ll handle preventive and reactive maintenance across electrical and mechanical plant, with opportunities to work on PLC and ABB robot fault-finding. You’ll collaborate with design, delivery technicians, and facilities to keep critical assets reliable. This role offers exposure to capital projects and software/hardware improvements in a safety‑conscious lab setting.

Responsibilities

• Assist in delivering preventive maintenance across the site
• Support reactive maintenance for plant issues reported by staff
• Audit and inspect critical assets identified by Maintenance and Development Manager
• Assist design/projects team on larger capital expenditure works
• Host contractors involved in preventive and reactive works
• Consult on software and hardware improvements

Key requirements

• Formal engineering qualification or apprenticeship (ideally electrical bias, but multi skilled)
• Excellent fault-finding and problem-solving skills
• Experience with PLC fault-finding (desirable)
• Robot (ABB) fault finding and maintenance experience (desirable)
• Good communication and teamwork
• Solution-focused attitude and adaptability to change
• Strong admin and record-keeping skills
