Overview

As Clinical Lead GP, you will provide expert clinical leadership across urgent care services at two sites, guiding GPs and the wider clinical team to deliver safe, high-quality patient care. You will drive governance, quality improvement, and audits, ensuring adherence to KPIs and national service specifications. Working with service managers and governance teams, you’ll shape clinical standards, mentor colleagues, and support recruitment and incident management. This role offers impact across cross-site clinical care and opportunities to influence service performance and patient outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality clinical consultations at the Urgent Care Centre
  • Offer clinical leadership and support to GPs and clinical colleagues
  • Supervise and develop the clinical team
  • Lead clinical quality assurance, audits, appraisals, and performance
  • Support service KPIs and national service specifications
  • Lead clinical audits and quality improvement projects
  • Identify and mitigate clinical risk and escalate issues
  • Support safeguarding, NHS policies, and CQC compliance
  • Assist recruitment of GPs and locum decisions
  • Collaborate with resourcing on claims or GMC investigations
  • Provide cross-site clinical cover as needed
  • Undertake senior clinical and administrative duties

Key requirements

  • MBBS or equivalent medical degree
  • Full GMC registration and licence to practise
  • GP training / CCT (JCPTGP / PMETB or equivalent)
  • MRCGP or equivalent
  • Inclusion on Medical Performers List with no restrictions
  • Enhanced DBS check
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development
  • Current UK professional registration
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent organisation and time-management
  • Leadership and mentoring abilities
  • Decision-making under pressure
  • Good IT skills; ability to use Microsoft Office and adapt to clinical IT systems
  • Knowledge of clinical governance, quality assurance, audit and risk management
