Offsite Design Manager
About the RoleSigmar Recruitment is partnering with a leading engineering and building services organisation to recruit an Offsite Design Manager. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced design professional to lead a specialist engineering team delivering innovative offsite and modular construction solutions across large-scale residential, commercial, industrial, and mixed-use projects.
This role offers the chance to take ownership of projects from concept through to fabrication and installation, while managing and developing a high-performing design team.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of design engineers, driving quality, performance, and continuous improvement.
- Manage the delivery of offsite and modular design solutions from concept through to fabrication-ready drawings.
- Review tender and employer requirements and develop practical, compliant design solutions.
- Produce and oversee schematics, calculations, specifications, and plant schedules.
- Coordinate multidisciplinary services within plant areas, ensuring buildability and efficient installation.
- Work closely with production and project teams to align design outputs with fabrication programmes.
- Support material selection, specification compliance, and fabrication standards.
- Carry out occasional site visits, surveys, and installation reviews.
- Monitor design performance, resource allocation, and project delivery metrics.
About You
- Degree or HND in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a design leadership or senior design role.
- Strong understanding of MEP/building services design and coordination.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience mentoring and developing engineering teams.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within offsite manufacturing, modular construction, or prefabricated M&E solutions.
- Background in commercial, industrial, or large-scale building services projects.
- Structural engineering knowledge or qualifications would be advantageous.
