Overview

As Legal Director in the Trusts and Estates Disputes team, you lead complex contentious matters for charities, high-net-worth individuals and financial institutions. You will collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to manage strategy, deadlines and client relationships. You shape dispute resolution across wills, trusts and executors, and mentor junior lawyers. The role sits in a large, specialist practice with national reach, offering impactful work and progression. You will drive business development and uphold firm standards in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a complex caseload of contentious trusts and probate matters
  • Advise clients on disputes involving wills, trusts, executors and trustees
  • Handle financial provision claims and contested Court of Protection applications
  • Draft and file court documents under tight deadlines
  • Conduct client meetings and provide strategic legal guidance
  • Support and mentor junior team members
  • Participate in local and national business development initiatives
  • Ensure compliance with service level agreements and firm standards

Key requirements

  • Minimum 5 years PQE in contentious trusts and estates
  • Strong technical knowledge and litigation experience
  • Excellent drafting and analytical skills
  • Confidence with Microsoft Word, Excel and legal IT systems
  • GCSE English Language and Mathematics grade C (or equivalent)
  • High initiative and resilience
  • Strong organisational and time management
  • Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Litigation experience in trusts and estates
  • Drafting and analytical skills
