Overview

As Senior Information Architect, you will shape Northern Trust’s enterprise data strategy, modelling standards, and AI-enabled capabilities. You’ll lead across conceptual, logical, and physical models within cloud platforms, guiding data governance and semantic modelling that supports agentic AI. You will collaborate with engineering and business domains to translate requirements into robust data structures and ensure AI readiness. This role offers impact across data platforms, governance, and enterprise architecture in a globally trusted financial services firm.

Responsibilities

  • Lead conceptual, logical, and physical data model design aligned with data mesh and medallion architectures
  • Govern enterprise data model library, enforce naming conventions, domain standards, and versioning
  • Define canonical data entities and lineage across source, integration, and consumption layers
  • Translate business requirements into rigorous data structures with engineering and domain teams
  • Guide semantic data models and their use in agentic AI solutions
  • Integrate semantic layers with glossaries, catalogs, and lineage tooling
  • Design and maintain semantic models for agentic-AI capabilities
  • Develop ontologies, taxonomies, and controlled vocabularies for metadata and search
  • Set data product schemas for Snowflake and Databricks; enforce guardrails for performance, security, and cost
  • Embed data contracts and data quality frameworks across pipelines
  • Leverage Snowflake Cortex / Databricks Genie and GitHub Copilot to accelerate AI-enabled development
  • Act as design authority for data architecture across teams and data domains
  • Collaborate with security and risk architecture to meet regulatory standards
  • Provide early architectural input to reduce delivery risk
  • Present decisions to senior stakeholders and architecture review boards
  • Mentor junior architects and engineers within the community of practice

Key requirements

  • Proven experience in data architecture, data engineering, or information management
  • Proven enterprise data modelling experience at conceptual, logical, and physical levels
  • Hands-on SqlDBM experience (or equivalent modern toolset)
  • Proven experience with dbt Labs
  • Good Python skills, API integration, automation
  • Practical Snowflake and Databricks experience including Cortex AI and Genie
  • Working knowledge of OWL, RDF, SPARQL and enterprise ontology design
  • Experience with at least one agentic AI framework
  • GitHub Copilot or equivalent AI coding assistant experience in a professional setting
  • Financial services background preferred; BCBS 239 awareness advantageous
