Overview

As a Civil Engineer, you will join a multidisciplinary team within the Client’s Approving Authority to support current operations and future programs at client sites. You will author, assess, and maintain Engineering Design Substantiations to ensure design intent and safety requirements align with standards. You will lead design change control, present substantiations to safety committees, and contribute to safety case documentation. This role places you at the heart of nuclear/high-risk project work, emphasizing rigorous analysis, stakeholder collaboration, and regulatory compliance. Responsibilities

  • Develop, assess, and manage Design Substantiation documents
  • Lead development and control of design changes and concessions
  • Present design substantiations to safety committees
  • Produce and maintain EIMT schedules, procedures, and records to support the safety case
  • Prepare and review Periodic Review of Safety reports
  • Provide expert engineering advice to internal and external stakeholders
  • Conduct Independent Technical and Peer Reviews (ITA/IPR)
  • Apply general and specialist knowledge to integrate emerging technologies
  • Use practical and theoretical methods across all project phases in high-risk/nuclear environments
  • Deliver robust technical justifications for civil/structural design changes in safety-critical contexts

Key requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in design assessment for reinforced concrete and steelwork structures with dynamic loads (earthquakes, blasts, wind, rain, snow)
  • Proven ability to produce technical justifications for civil/structural design modifications in high-hazard industries
  • Applied theoretical and practical methods to design, develop, and manage engineering processes in nuclear/high-risk environments
  • Strong foundation in general and specialist engineering knowledge utilizing existing and emerging technologies
  • Desirable: experience in a similar nuclear environment
  • Desirable: familiarity with safety case development techniques (HAZID/HAZOP)
  • Civil/Structural Engineering degree
  • Incorporated engineer or Chartered engineer (or equivalent experience)
