Principal Civil Engineer

Overview

As Principal Civil Engineer, you will lead high-impact highways and infrastructure design projects within a respected civil engineering design consultancy. You will work closely with clients, planning consultants, and regulators to deliver cost-effective drainage and road infrastructure solutions. You’ll shape project delivery, mentor junior engineers, and drive growth for the Civils team from the Bristol office. This role offers autonomy on projects, strong client exposure, and a path to leadership within a collaborative, professional environment.

Responsibilities

• Lead and deliver highways and infrastructure design projects
• Provide pre-acquisition advice on drainage options, Flood Risk Assessments, and Drainage Strategy reporting
• Support planning applications with robust design and regulatory liaison
• Develop and maintain client relationships and communicate project status
• Mentor and grow the Civils team under the Regional Director
• Ensure projects meet budget, quality, and timescales through hands-on engagement

Key requirements

• Sound client liaison experience and commercial awareness
• Willingness to grow a Civils team and mentor colleagues
• Strong organisation, communication, and presentation skills
• Ideally 8+ years’ experience in Civil Engineering design consultancy
• Experience with Section 278, 38, 185 and 104
• Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil3D, WinDes or equivalent
• Hands-on approach to design and project delivery
