Technical Manager

Overview

In this shore-based Technical Manager role, you will oversee the technical management of a yacht fleet from Southampton, partnering with captains, engineers, crew and Yacht Managers to ensure vessels operate to high standards. You’ll lead maintenance, regulatory compliance, and technical projects while supporting on-call technical responses. The position sits at the heart of a global yacht management operation, enabling reliable performance and safer operations. You will shape technical service delivery and contribute to continuous improvement across the fleet.

Responsibilities

• Ensure yachts comply with Class, Flag State, regulatory and company requirements
• Maintain strong relationships with Captains, Chief Engineers, crew, Yacht Managers and DPA
• Oversee maintenance across mechanical, electrical, safety, environmental, LSA and navigational systems
• Manage Planned Maintenance Systems, inspections, audits and yacht visits; resolve deficiencies
• Provide technical advice and remote support; coordinate with contractors and service providers
• Support purchasing, supplier management, invoicing review, budgeting and monitoring of technical expenditure
• Assist with refit, drydock, and technical upgrade projects from specification to completion
• Support emergency preparedness and 24/7 technical response; mitigate risks
• Contribute to continuous improvement of yacht management technical services

Key requirements

• Shore-based experience as Technical Manager/Superintendent or similar
• Senior onboard engineering experience
• Strong knowledge of mechanical and electrical vessel systems
• Experience with planned maintenance, inspections, audits and regulatory compliance
• Experience with shipyard refits, drydocking or technical projects
• Experience managing contractors, suppliers, purchasing and budgets
• Solid understanding of Class, Flag State and regulatory requirements
• Right to work in the UK; willingness to travel to visit the fleet
• Ability to work collaboratively with onboard and shore-based teams
